How to get to Cibali Pier

Cibali Pier (Cibali İskelesi) is on the old-city shore of the Golden Horn, in the Fatih district, directly beside Kadir Has University, the restored Cibali tobacco factory. The quickest public route is the T5 tram: from Eminönü it is two stops to the Cibali stop, and the pier is a short walk from there. Boarding opens at 20:00 and we leave at 21:00. Below are all the other ways to reach us, including our hotel transfer, and routes from each part of the city.

Where Cibali Pier is

The Golden Horn is the inlet that separates the old city from Galata and Beyoğlu. Cibali is on its old-city side, upstream from the Galata Bridge and just past the Atatürk (Unkapanı) Bridge. The landmark to look for is Kadir Has University: a long brick building right on the water that was a tobacco factory for most of the twentieth century and is now a university campus. Our pier is beside it, on the shore road, with the T5 tram line running past.

By T5 tram along the Golden Horn

The T5 is the tram that runs along the Golden Horn shore from Eminönü to Alibeyköy. Its stops from the Eminönü end are Eminönü, Küçükpazar, Cibali, Fener, Balat, Ayvansaray and onward up the inlet. The Eminönü–Cibali section only opened in August 2023, which is why older guidebooks and some map apps still miss it. Get off at Cibali. The stop is a short walk from the pier, and Kadir Has University is the building you are looking for.

If you are coming from Sultanahmet, Sirkeci, Karaköy or anywhere else on the T1 line (Kabataş–Bağcılar), change at Eminönü. Both trams stop at the Eminönü transport hub, and the T5 platform is a short walk from the T1 stop; follow the signs for T5 and Alibeyköy. Trams run frequently in the early evening, so the change usually adds only a few minutes.

Istanbulkart, the city's transit card, works on the T5, the T1 and every other option on this page. You can buy one or top it up at the machines in the Eminönü hub. We do not quote fares here because they change; the machine shows the current price when you load the card.

By M2 metro or Marmaray

The M2 metro crosses the Golden Horn on its own bridge, and the Haliç station sits on that bridge, midway across the water. Coming from Taksim, Şişhane or further up the M2, get off at Haliç and take the Fatih-side exit, signed Unkapanı. At the bottom, turn toward the water and walk upstream, away from the Galata Bridge, keeping the Golden Horn on your right. You pass under the Atatürk (Unkapanı) Bridge and reach Cibali in about 10–12 minutes. From Taksim this is the fastest route by public transport, and it avoids the crowds at Eminönü.

Marmaray, the rail line under the Bosphorus, is the useful option from the Asian side. Get off at Sirkeci. From there, take the T1 one stop toward Kabataş to Eminönü and change to the T5, or walk: Sirkeci to Cibali along the waterfront is about 25 minutes, and you pass the Eminönü ferry piers and the Galata Bridge on the way.

On foot from Galata Bridge or Eminönü

The walk from the Eminönü end of the Galata Bridge to Cibali takes about 20–25 minutes and is flat the whole way. Keep the water on your right. You pass the ferry piers and the Küçükpazar tram stop, go under the Golden Horn Metro Bridge and then under the Atatürk Bridge. After the second bridge the shore quiets down, the long brick front of Kadir Has University appears ahead, and the pier is beside it. The T5 runs parallel to the entire route, so if you tire you can board at the next stop.

This walk fits neatly after an afternoon in the old city; we have written a separate guide to three hours in Eminönü before you board. In rain or a strong wind off the water, take the tram instead. You will see the same shore from the boat on the way out, from a better angle.

By taxi, or with our hotel transfer

Taxi

Tell the driver "Cibali, Kadir Has Üniversitesi". Most drivers know the university even if they have never heard of the pier. Expect about 10–15 minutes from Sultanahmet and 15–25 minutes from Taksim, and add time in evening traffic, which can be heavy on the Galata Bridge and the shore roads before 20:00. Istanbul's yellow taxis run on a meter and can also be called through the usual ride-hailing apps. If your driver hesitates at the end, show the map pin.

Our hotel transfer

If you would rather not think about any of this, add the hotel transfer when you book. It costs €5 per person, children aged 0–3 ride free, and it covers pickup at your hotel before boarding and drop-off after we return. We serve these zones: Sultanahmet, Fatih, Laleli, Eminönü, Sirkeci, Topkapı, Yenikapı, Beyoğlu, Taksim, Şişli, Beşiktaş, Ortaköy, Kağıthane and Sütlüce. We confirm your pickup time on WhatsApp. Same-day transfer requests made after 18:30 depend on vehicle availability, so ask early in the day if you can. From where you are staying

These are the routes we recommend from the areas most of our guests stay in. Times are for a normal evening and are approximate; traffic and the wait for a tram or ferry can add to them.

Two notes for the Asian side. The ferry to Eminönü is the scenic choice and lands you at the Eminönü hub, where the T5 begins; we do not print ferry times because they change with the season, so check the day's schedule at the pier before you commit to it. Marmaray does not depend on the weather and is the safer fallback on a windy evening. Staying in Fener or Balat? You are already next door. The T5 runs back one or two stops to Cibali, or it is a walk of about 10–15 minutes along the shore. The Golden Horn public ferry also calls at Fener, about a 10–15 minute walk from the pier, if you happen to be arriving that way.

On the night: timing, the pin, and running late

Boarding opens at 20:00 and the cold mezes are already on the table, so there is no reason to cut it fine. We suggest being on the pier at least 30 minutes before the 21:00 departure. That leaves room for a wrong turn, a slow tram or a driver who takes the long way, and it gives you time to settle in, choose your main course and order a drink before we cast off.

If you are running late, message us on WhatsApp as soon as you know. Tell us where you are and how you are traveling, and we will tell you the quickest way to the pier and whether you can still make it. We leave at 21:00 and cannot hold the boat for late arrivals, so a message at the first sign of delay is worth far more than one sent from the taxi as it pulls up.

Cancellation is free up to two hours before departure, until 19:00, by WhatsApp or through the form on our website; after that, please still let us know so we can plan the tables. After the cruise we are back at Cibali between 23:45 and 00:00. Guests with the transfer add-on are driven back to their hotel; everyone else can take a taxi from the pier or check the last tram time for their line before setting out in the evening.
